Nebulizers & Compressors Cleaning & Maintainance Tips

It is very important that you clean and maintain your nebulizer well for effective treatment of asthma and other respiratory and lung disorders you may have because a dirty nebulizer can lead to infection or blockage of the hose or tubing which will result in less or infected medication delivery to your lungs.

Do not remove the outer casing of your compressor or pump for any reason, it may kill you!

Cleaning the nebulizer before you use it for the first time,

after each treatment, use fresh cleaning solution and always air dry the nebulizer (do not air dry). If your physician or the manufacturers representative (dealer) give you instruction then do whatever they say, or if you are using one of those medical disinfectant cleaner then follow that manufacturers instruction otherwise follow the cleaning instruction below for your nebulizer parts.

Disconnect the nebulizer and mouthpiece from tuning

  •  Take the nebulizer chamber apart (follow manufacturer's disassemblying instruction)
  •  Use two plastic containers, fill one with hot water and detergent solution for washing, fill the other with hot water and vinegar solution (one quarter vinegar and three quarter water)
  •  Clean the nebulizer (not the pump or compressor) and mouthpiece in solution detergent with hotwater
  •  Remove and rinse with hot tap water
  •  Soak in the vinegar solution hot water for 30 minutes.
  •  Rinse with hot tap water and air dry till it is completely dry.
  • The tubing need to be wiped regularly and it does't have to be washed internally because only air goes through.
  • To clean the compressor or pump use a wet soft close on the casing once a day and dry with a dry towel.
  • Parts : To Clean mouthpiece Can be cleaned in 121 degree C hot water or autoclave for 10 minutes, air dry and store as instructed by your manufacturer.

Nebulizer Replacement and Parts Information


Your nebulizer must be changed once every 6 months to 1 year (reusable nebulizer) and 30 days (disposable nebulizer). Regular inspection is important in order to detect small cracks in the mediation cup.

Inspection of your filter is encouraged , when your filter turns gray then it is time to change it or when you must have used it for approximately 20-30 hours.

Inspection of your nebulizer should be carried out often to make sure it works perfectly, if your nebulizer compressor isn't working optimally you might want to carry out on inspection, if you are having problem turn the compressor nebulizer on then check the power plug or try plugging it to a different sucket if it still doesn't work you probably need a replacement, but I will suggest carry out a thorough inspection first.
