Wheelchair Transfer to and From tofa, ted and shower chair

When transferring from a wheelchair to another object such as a bed, sofa or shower chair the first safety but significant tip is to make sure the space between the chair and the other object is small, the brake of the wheel must be engaged, this make sure that while you are attempting to move the chair does not roll back or forth , a situation that can lead to serious injury. Also make sure the front caster is aligned parallel to the object.

CAUTION

During transfer make sure you seat you do not seat at the edge of the chair, seat all the way back  yourself as far back as possible in the seat so that your whole weight can be on the chair and thus prevent it from tipping over, it also reduce the likelihood of the upholstery on the chair getting damaged.

Wheelchair Transfer Procedure:

Patients who have enough strength in their arm, upper body and those who are able to move their body can independently transfer from wheelchair to other objects if transfer procedures are followed.

The wheelchair must be positioned at its closest point alongside the object, and front casters parallel to to it.

Wheelchair Transfer To and From Other Seats

Transfer board is recommended to other seats because this kind of of transfer is risky, so any  independent transfer should follow this guideline.
